I am looking into your eyes
I am looking into your eyes and I see the eyes I looked into so long ago
we were careless with love but it was the start of our lives.
Friends and lovers have come and gone.
Did we ever think of each other in times of trouble or pain?
I am looking into your eyes and I see all that I loved before long ago
when we promised to love each other always.
We have travelled far and sometimes alone.
Did you remember what we had said back then?
I am looking into your eyes and you look just the same as long ago
When we parted you said ‘I wish you all the happiness that you wish for yourself’
What had seemed like goodbye now seems like an opportunity
Did you know the happiness I wished for was to be with you again?
As I look into your eyes I know that we are back in the right place just as long ago
to have the chance to be with you again.
Hope is blossoming where there was once an empty space
Did you sense the ache in my heart that could never be filled by another?
I am looking into your eyes and I know that even though it was long ago
I have never stopped loving you for a second.
I have found that to love without hope is to really love
Did you ever think I would forget you or never want to cherish you again?

Really nice.. tried to feel.. felt a bit too. enjoyed reading . “I have never stopped loving you for a second.” Nice line…
Thank you. It is all about feeling and sometimes in our lives we feel so much it is hard to put it down in words. Glad you felt a bit too.

Why do we realize so many things about our personal relationship only when we are far apart? .. Thanks for the sincerity in your lines..
Far apart in distance or time. I have a theory, and it seems to be supported by recent research into the effects of endorphins and oxytocin on our thoughts and emotions, that we become a little bit addicted to people and crave to be with them. Will we ever have an adequate scientific explanation for the complex web of emotions that make up human bonding?

“Did you ever think I would forget you or never want to cherish you again?”
Love that line. Hope and then expecting to be disappointed at the end. You write well. Thank you for giving me another reason to write.
Thank you. I do hope that that the poem comes across as optimistic (I guess it depends on the readers answers to the semi-rhetorical questions being asked) and readers are are left with the idea that renewal/a new start is a realistic option.
Many thanks for a thought provoking comment and best of luck with your own writing.

I am in poetry mode now. Let me give you a line..
“It was love that kept us,
And it was also love that separated us,
Love is really fragile,
And what lies between is merely honesty”
Honesty is the medium for love, and ego comes in between honesty. Ok… I am out of topic. hahahah
Nice work. Thanks as always Mel
I remember a long ago love.
He’s married to my best friend from then.
Somewhere midway in our separate lives
we kissed and knew we had always loved
and always will, though we married others.
The electricity is on a dimmer switch, on low,
when we meet. The undercurrent will never go.
Though he lives half a world away,
we know.
Your lines triggered that memory, that feeling, those goosebumps just hovering beneath the skin.
